Random Thoughts, because I am allowed to blog again

Good morning sunshine.  No really, good morning sunshine.  It is bright outside.  Bright and hot.  It fees like July, but it’s November.  This would be fine if my apartment complex hadn’t switched over from AC to heat three weeks ago.  My room is sauna-fying as we speak.  I think it’s making the cats sleepy.  Anyway, let’s just get to the random thoughts.

——

Now that I’m blogging again (for the time being), I’m trying to figure out what it is I want to blog about.  The only thing I am certain of is that I want to have another hot celebrity draft.  I can’t really call it the second annual hot girl draft because technically we still have 2 or 3 months to go until its been a full year since the last one.  That being said, 9 or 10 months is an eternity in the world of attractive female celebrities and I think it is long overdue.  I imagine the participants in the first draft will be back.  Maybe Jeff will even decide to draft someone other than Brittney Spears.  I think 8 would be a nice round number for drafters, which means there are two spots open.  Shoot me an email or reply in the comments if you are interested in drafting with us.

My computer finally died last week.  I have commandeered my girlfriend’s computer for the time being, but updates may be sporadic until my technology situation gets a bit more stable.  I’m definitely switching to a Mac.  Why?  Oh let me count the reasons.  Macs are less susceptible to viruses.  I don’t hear any of my friends with Macs discussing the 18 different virus scanners they need to use to protect their computers.  If my Mac breaks I can bring it to the apple store instead of having a Dell customer service rep give me a list of tools I will need for him to walk me through the process of opening my computer to troubleshoot whatever issues I might have (well no, kind sir, I do not own 6 different kinds of screw drivers.  Can’t I just send it to you to fix?  Not until we spend the next 5 hours trying to troubleshoot the problem?….great).

Hey, did you hear the Yankees won the World Series?

mlb_a_yankeeswin09_668

They did, and it was amazing.  I remember last year around this time I wrote a post asking whether CC plus Tex would equal a world series win.  Most people bashed CC for being fat and Tex for being a jerk. Sweet sweet victory says otherwise.  What a great team and a great series.

Honestly, can you imagine how intolerable the already intolerable Phillies fans would have been if they had won a second straight World Series?  It would have been terrible.  You should be thanking the Yankees.

I know the formatting for that last part is going to be messed up.  I’ll fix it later, maybe.

We are getting to that part of the sports year where I begin to live and die based on my fantasy sports teams because of how wretched my real life sports teams are playing.  The New York Knicks are 1-9 (!) and I am slowly starting to realize that the chances of the Knicks landing Lebron are shrinking by the day.  No no no, that doesn’t mean he is staying in Cleveland, just that he won’t play for the Knicks.  I bet they end up getting Chris Bosh.  The perennially underachieving New York Rangers look primed for another 5 or 6 seed and first round playoff exit.  The San Francisco 49ers are 4-5 and will probably finish something like 8-8, which is the NFL equivalent of kissing your sister.  The Notre Dame Fighting Irish, squandering talent since as long as I can remember.  My GW Colonials will probably finish in the bottom 3 or 4 of the A-10.  Honestly, there is nothing for me to love.

——

Fortunately my fantasy sports teams are alive and kicking.  This deserves its own post.

——

I’ve got MTV Cribs on in the background, and Aubrey O’Day from the band formerly known as Danity Kane just showed us her pad.  She might be the stupidest sort of celebrity in existence today.  I’d wager a lot of money that we see her on Dr. Drew’s Celebrity Rehab within the next 2 or 3 years.

——

That’s about all I’ve got for now.  Happy Monday everyone.

Random Thoughts: As I work from home

Ok, ok, ok, ok, ok,

I’ll update.

——

I “finally” watched Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer over the weekend. I put finally in quotes because its not as though this was something I had been desperately trying to find time to do. Quite honestly, it was one of the worst piece of garbage movies I have ever seen. Visually it looks fine, but no different than any other high budget sci fi movie that has come out in the last 5 years. The movie had to have been made using one of the worst written scripts of all time because the dialogue is horrendous. It is laughably bad. Whoever wrote the move should have their hands sewn together to prevent them from writing anything else ever in their life. The story is remarkably bad. Nothing about this movie is good.

Even Jessica Alba is unbearable to watch. How bad does a movie have to be for me to not even enjoy watching Jessica Alba in HD? Really, really bad.

I don’t think I’ve mentioned this on the blog yet, but I am running a triathlon in 5 or 6 months. I started training for it a few weeks ago. I haven’t decided which one yet. When I was browsing websites a month or so ago looking for local triathlons I wasn’t able to find any sprints that were in the DC area.

Since then and by talking to people who have run triathlons in the past, I was probably looking a little early for a triathlon in August or September. I’m going to look again in a week or so. That being said, if anyone has suggestions about good sprint triathlons in the area, let me know.

This weather is destroying my soul. Literally. I am normally a very healthy person. However, in the “transition periods” of the year, when going from winter to spring or fall to winter, my body reacts like I’m allergic to life. The constant boomeranging back and forth from sunny and 60 to overcast and 30, with rain, and then snow, is really killing me. I basically have a three week block in February/March and September/October where I sound like a yeti and can’t breathe out of my nose. Lots of fun.

So this little soiree we had with spring last week combined with today’s blizzard makes me want to curl up in a ball and die. I suppose my decision to go out on Saturday without a coat (thinking it was going to be nice like it was during the day, silly me) only to be snowed on while wearing a t shirt and sweater could have had something to do with it. Either way, the weather needs to lock it the hell up and decide what it wants to do with itself.

Fantasy basketball is winding down. I’m in a little bit of trouble. Three weeks out of fifteen are the reason why I currently find myself in a statistical tie for the last playoff spot with only a week or two left in the season. In those three weeks I lost 8-0, 7-2, and 7-2. Ugh. My entire team laid collective goose eggs. Now all of the hard work in assembling a decent team is slowly but surely going down the drain. Fortunately I’ve got one of the bottle barrel teams this week before going up against the 3rd place team two weeks from now.

The reason why its pissing me off. I have a great team. Granted I sacrifice two categories a week (turn overs and free throw percentage), but there is no reason why I shouldn’t have 6-3 or 7-2 victories every week. And I have been getting those. Except for those three stupid weeks. Dammit. Let’s just move on.

Coolest blog-related comment I’ve had in a long time comes courtesy of my friend Melissa on my Facebook wall:

Fun fact: While in the middle of Cambodia, I was actually checking your blog for news back home instead of CNN or NYT or any other mainstream news source. Thought you’d appreciate that.

And I definitely do. Cambodia! We are global!

For some reason the polls don’t have a “end on date and time” feature, so it’s possible you were able to vote on Moron of the Week over the weekend. I checked the blog on Saturday morning and I know who won. I’ll be writing that post up later today.

That’s all for now, be back later.

Random Thoughts: Reposted Because Blogger is the Worst

I declared war on my bathroom last night. It was a terrible fight. A war on soap scum. Seriously, I don’t think I’ve ever experienced anything like it. The war lasted for hours (literally), but I prevailed. My allies in this war deserve all the credit in the world. They are Clorox scented wipes. Not only did three quarters of a roll of Clorox wipes lay waste to the evil forces staining my sink, toilet, and tiled bathroom floor, but they also aided in the most incredible battle of all; the battle for my bathtub and shower.

Never before has so much soap scum amassed in one location. Clorox wipes served their purpose, but the battle was truly won because of Clorox Disinfecting Bathroom Cleaner. Both the foaming and spraying features were vital in making my bathtub look the way it does today. And though my hands were searing in pain from so many chemicals entering my bloodstream from the cuts and scrapes I got while cleaning, it is a war that had to be won, and it is a war that was won. As I walked into the bathroom this morning and shielded my eyes from the gleam coming off of my sparkling bathtub, sink, and floor, I smiled the sweet sweet smile of victory.

Tomorrow is Ash Wednesday. I still haven’t settled on what I’m giving up for Lent. I normally give up pizza, candy, and chocolate, but so long as I am on course with getting in shape, these three things are a bit outdated because I am not eating them anyway. Therefore I am opening this up for discussion. I need help deciding what to give up. Give me ideas.

I also need help finding a church for Ash Wednesday Mass. There is a church down the street from where I work, but if you know of any in the Crystal City area I would greatly appreciate the tip.

I had a real tough time trying to figure out how to properly spell panty hose. I didn’t know if it was “panty” or “pantie” or some other variation of the word that I would never need to know because I’ve never had to buy them before. I also had a lot of issues with whether or not it was “hoes” “hose” or “hos.” So I started google searching, and I have to say, I’m a little concerned. Turns out if you search for “panty hoes” on google, a number of websites show up that are probably not appropriate for work. Porn. SO MUCH PORN.

I didn’t click on any of it, I know better than that. I did however wonder what sort of pornography would prominently feature panty hose (proper spelling) to the point that the movie would be named after them. Hmmm……thanks to Marie for helping me figure out the proper spelling.

As far as I can tell, the uniform answer for “why do women wear skirts when its cold” is, “because we like to look cute, and pant suits are usually not cute.” Thanks for clearing that up. PS: You look adorable when your nose is running and you are hacking up a lung because you caught a cold from walking to work with no pants on when its 10 degrees for three straight weeks.

All of the women who have been clamoring for a Hot Male Celebrity Draft can finally take a deep breath, or get really upset. My friend Taylor who writes Ahlan Wa Cherrio is in the process of doing just that. Her draft is a bit different than the one I did. They have 11 participants (I think) instead of 5 (6 if you count Team Britney Spears), and they are only going for 12 rounds instead of 18. They’re also doing it entirely through email, which may take them a little while. Taylor has been tweeting some play by play on specific picks, so head over there if you want to get an idea about who has been picked so far.

You better believe I’ll have comments on the draft when it is up on her blog.

The New York Rangers are terrible. So are the Knicks. The GW Colonials can’t buy a basketball game. At least Jeff Gordon finished second place in this week’s NASCAR race. Is it time for opening day yet?
